French poker pro Benjamin Pollak outlasted the star-studded field of the second $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em on the schedule of the inaugural US Poker Open to add $416,500 to his poker bankroll and to assume a second position in the US Poker Champion leaderboad, with UK’s Stephen Chidwick being the only player ahead.
Last night, Pollak remained the last man standing from a field of 49 entries. The player faced some of poker’s celebrities, including Daniel Negreanu and Isaac Haxton.
Pollak himself has some celebrity moments to boast about. The player finished third in last year’s edition of the WSOP $10,000 Main Event for his career’s best live cash of $3.5 million. That accomplishment rocketed Pollak towards the top of his home country’s all-time money list. With live tournament winnings of nearly $8.8 million, the player is second in that list. Bertrand Grospellier is currently France’s most profitable player of all time with earnings of more than $13.5 million.
In the two-day $25,000 High Roller Pollak performed particularly well, despite his tough competitors. The player entered the tournament’s six-handed final table second in chips with 1.197 million. Chidwick was the finalist to lead the pack of six for final table action with 1.348 million. Thus, the Englishman secured himself with a fourth cash from the brand-new US Poker Open series to cement his position in the US Poker Champion leaderboard.
Chidwick eventually finished third in last night’s event for a cash prize of $183,750. Including his latest in-the-money finish, he now has a total of $994,600 from the series.
Final Table Highlights
The event’s final table was comprised mostly of prominent poker pros. As mentioned above, Chidwick entered that stage of the game as the chip leader, vying for his third US Poker Open title.
Elijah Berg was the first player to leave the table. He received $73,500 for his performance. Berg was followed by Brian Green and Isaac Haxton, who collected $98,000 and $122,500, respectively. This was Haxton’s second cash from the series, after he finished third in the $25,000 Mixed Games event a few days ago.
As mentioned above, Chidwick could only make it to a third-place finish in this one. That left Pollak and Koon the only two survivors at the final table. The Frenchman began heads-up play with massive chip advantage over his final opponent. The two players inflicted several blows upon each other, before Pollak won the final hand of the final table and the tournament as a whole.
Here it is important to note that the French poker pro has one previous cash from the US Poker Open series. He finished fourth in the $25,000 Mixed Games Championship for $112,500. Including last night’s payout, he now has $554,600 from the series.
Players are set to play one more final table at the host venue Aria Resort & Casino before the closing $50,000 Main Event. The final table of the third $25,000 buy-in tournament on the schedule is set to be played later today at the popular Las Vegas casino.
